“What should I be taking for my eyes?”You hear it in every clinic. Here's something to point to.
For Eye Doctors, NHS and Private

Give the Nutrition Question
a Number to Work With.

Patients already ask about their nutrition and what to take for their eyes, and a consultation rarely has room for the full answer. Prysm iO is a 15-second fingertip scan that reads skin carotenoid levels - the same family of pigments found in leafy greens and colourful vegetables - and turns them into one score that can be re-checked at a later visit. It sits alongside your clinical work, never in place of it, and any income it earns you is the kind you declare openly.

  • A wellness reading, not a test: it makes no claim to assess or predict eye disease
  • Small enough for a consulting-room desk or a clinic reception, paired with an app on a phone or tablet
  • Built for open use - you decide whether, where and with whom, and you declare it

No sales script and no obligation on the call - just enough to decide whether it earns a place in how you work.

The question after the examination

The Nutrition Conversation Deserves More Than Whatever Time Is Left Over

By the time the assessment is finished, the imaging reviewed and the plan explained, there is rarely room to talk about nutrition properly - yet it is the thing patients ask about on the way out. Patient guidance from bodies such as the Macular Society already points towards leafy greens, omega-3s, not smoking and regular exercise. Prysm iO does not add another test to your clinic. It gives that short conversation a reference point: a number the patient can watch, and that you can ask about next time.

Your Patients Deserve to Know

Is Their Diet Actually Supporting Their Eye Health?

Patients rarely connect their diet with their eye health unless it is pointed out to them. Lutein-rich food loses potency between the shelf and the plate, so a patient who thinks they eat well can still be short of the specific nutrients that matter most here.

A supplement, taken on faith

Plenty of patients already take a lutein or eye-health supplement on faith - a bottle, a routine, a hope it's doing something - with no way to know if it is actually reaching the eye. That is exactly the kind of question a consulting room is built to answer.

A reading, not an assumption

A 15-second scan gives a patient their own carotenoid score, a genuine personal reading rather than a generic recommendation, and a natural addition to an eye-health conversation you are already having.

Guaranteed, not just marketed

The Pharmanex Certified range is built to raise a score that has room to climb, and that claim comes with a guarantee rather than just marketing: no improvement within 90-100 days on a certified, Prysm-eligible product means a full refund, subject to Nu Skin's Terms and Conditions.

Make the eye-health nutrition conversation measurable, and back it with a range built to move the number.

What the range contains

The Ingredients Patients Already Ask You About

When someone with a lower score wants to raise it, the products we suggest are built around carotenoids and other nutrients that come up in everyday eye-health conversations. Pharmanex formulas are designed to be highly bioavailable. Here is what the range includes, described plainly and without promising anything about anyone's eyes.

A smiling woman holding the Prysm iO scanner, surrounded by hands offering the Pharmanex LifePak, JVi and Beauty Focus products

Lutein

A carotenoid found in leafy greens and other colourful plants, and the one patients ask about most. Lutein is included in products in the range in a highly bioavailable form, alongside other carotenoids.

Zeaxanthin and other carotenoids

The multivitamin formulas also provide a wider carotenoid blend, and JVi, the fruit-and-vegetable beverage, contains carotenoids too. These are the same family of pigments the Prysm iO scan reads in the skin.

DHA omega-3

Marine Omega supplies EPA and DHA. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, as part of a varied diet.

Vitamins and minerals

The LifePak formulas provide a broad set of vitamins and minerals formulated to support normal vision, among other everyday functions.

Substantiated Before It Reaches the Shelf

Every Pharmanex formula goes through Pharmanex's 6S Quality Process: selection, sourcing, structure, standardisation, safety and substantiation. The last of those means product claims rest on documented preclinical and clinical studies. And the most persuasive evidence of all is the person's own: they scan, take the products, and watch their own score move.

Already recommend or stock a lutein supplement?

Let the Score Do the Comparing

You can scan someone who is currently taking any other product to set a baseline. If they choose to move to a Prysm-certified alternative, you re-scan them over the following weeks and they watch their score move. Because the scan reads carotenoids in skin tissue, a rising score is an objective sign that what they are taking is being absorbed and reaching the body, rather than something taken on trust.

100 Million Healthy Households

Many patients will want a Prysm iO device of their own, so that they can keep re-scanning at home and scan family members too, even competing a little for the highest score. Nu Skin's stated aim is 100 million healthy households, each with a device and a shared habit of better choices on nutrition and supplements. If you offer patients a device, declare your commercial interest to them, as you would with anything else here.

A supplement someone takes because a clinician has advised it for a diagnosed condition should only ever be changed with that clinician's agreement. The score is a wellness reading, not a reason to stop or switch clinically advised treatment.

Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet, which should always come first. These products are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any eye condition, and they do not replace ophthalmic assessment or treatment. Please check each product's label for its exact ingredients and amounts.

Worth settling before anything else

Four Questions a Careful Doctor Asks First

You are registered with the GMC, you answer to a trust or a hospital, and your patients trust what you tell them. So the sensible questions come before the enthusiasm. Here are the ones that come up most, answered plainly.

Two people reviewing a Prysm iO wellness score together on the connected app

"Isn't earning from this a conflict of interest?"

It is the right question to ask first. GMC guidance expects doctors to be open about any financial interest that could affect how they advise, treat or refer patients, and to put patients' interests ahead of their own. In practice that means declaring it, never letting it shape a clinical decision, and never pressing a product on anyone. Some doctors will decide to use Prysm iO only away from patient care. That is a legitimate choice, and it is yours. Take your own advice from the GMC, your employer and your indemnifier.

"Does it tell me anything about the macula or the retina?"

No. Prysm iO reads carotenoid levels in the skin of a fingertip. It does not measure macular pigment, does not assess the retina, and makes no claim to diagnose or predict any eye condition. Nothing about it replaces ophthalmic assessment. It is a wellness reading about nutrition and lifestyle patterns, and it should be described to patients in exactly those terms.

"My lists are already overrunning."

Understood. The scan takes 15 seconds and pairs with an app on a phone or tablet, so there is nothing separate to book. You will need to install the app and spend a little time learning it. Whether it is discussed in a follow-up, handled by a member of your team, or kept for settings outside patient care is up to you.

"I work across NHS and private settings."

Many ophthalmologists do. Anything you do with Prysm iO in your own private rooms is separate from your NHS contract, but trusts and private hospitals can each have their own rules on outside interests and on selling to patients. Read them before you start, and ask if they are unclear.

Under the hood

How a Light Reading Becomes a Score

Prysm iO uses optical scanning to turn nutritional wellness into a personalised score in around 15 seconds - no blood draw, no lab appointment, and nothing demanding for a patient to sit through.

What comes out is one trackable result. It is not an ophthalmic measurement and it says nothing about the eye itself, but it is easy to explain and easy to return to, which is what a brief nutrition and lifestyle discussion needs.

Each reading is taken from a fingertip on the same hand, which keeps results consistent from one scan to the next. That consistency is what makes a trend worth trusting, rather than a single number that shifts with how the device was held. The device pairs with the Prysm iO app on an iOS or Android phone or tablet. You will need to install the app and spend a little time getting to know it, but once you have, the device sits as comfortably on a consulting-room desk as anywhere else.

Prysm iO is a wellness insight tool. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or mitigate any disease or medical condition, and it is not a substitute for ophthalmic assessment, diagnosis or treatment, or for medical or dietetic advice.

01

Over in 15 Seconds

Brief enough to fit around a consultation or a follow-up without a separate appointment, and simple enough to run from a desk or a reception counter. No blood draw, no lab, no waiting on results.

02

Spectral Rai Technology

A single fingertip placement captures tens of thousands of individual light measurements through hyperspectral absorption, reading carotenoid-related activity in the skin.

03

One Score, Not a Data Dump

An AI model distils those readings into a single Prysm Score between 100 and 1000 - something a patient can grasp in a sentence, rather than a report that needs interpreting.

04

Something to Come Back To

Patients follow their score in a connected app between visits, which keeps whatever lifestyle advice you have given in front of them and offers a natural point to revisit at a re-check.

05

Backed by Real Research

Over 20 years of Pharmanex (a division of Nu Skin) R&D sits behind it - 110 clinical studies, 180 white papers, and 18 global patents. This is health-tech with a paper trail, not a wellness gadget.

Why a number helps

Good Advice Sticks Better
When There Is Something to Measure.

Patients rarely lack the intention to improve their nutrition. What they lack is feedback. Prysm iO gives them a single figure between 100 and 1000 that they can follow in the companion app between visits, and that you can revisit at the next one. It is a prompt for a healthier routine, not a measure of their eye health.

A woman smiling as she touches the Prysm iO scanner on a kitchen counter beside a blender of fruit and greens

Advice With Something to Watch

Lifestyle advice is easy to agree with and hard to keep up. A skin carotenoid score tends to reflect nutrition and supplement use over time, so a patient who changes their nutrition can look for the number to follow, rather than taking it on trust that it is working.

A Natural Reason to Re-Check

A repeat scan fits neatly alongside a routine follow-up visit. It gives both of you something concrete to look back at, without turning the appointment into a sales conversation.

A Neutral Thing to Talk About

Talking about a wellness number is a gentler route into nutrition and lifestyle than talking about a diagnosis. The score belongs to the patient, and the conversation stays on habits rather than on their eyes.

Worth stating clearly: a rising score is not evidence that anyone's eyes have improved, and a low one is not a finding about their eyes either. Patients should hear that from you, in those words.

Where would it sit in your work?

Six Ways Eye Doctors Could Use This

Ophthalmology is not one working pattern. Some of you are NHS-only, some independent, most a mix of the two. See whether any of these describes how your week is really arranged.

Two people reviewing a Prysm iO wellness score on a phone beside the scanner

Private-Practice Consultants

Your own rooms or regular lists at an independent hospital, where consultations have room to breathe and patients expect advice that reaches beyond the eye.

Medical Retina and AMD Specialists

Few areas of ophthalmology field the "what should I be doing about my nutrition?" question as often. A neutral wellness figure gives that discussion a starting point without saying anything about anyone's retina.

Cataract and Refractive Surgeons

Patients weighing up surgery are often health-minded already. A scan can suit a clinic open evening or a pre-assessment waiting area, provided it is presented as a wellness extra.

NHS Consultants With Sessional Private Work

An NHS contract on one side and a private list on the other. Use Prysm iO only where your employer's rules allow it, and only where you are content to declare it.

Practice Owners and Clinic Directors

If you run a practice, a scanner at reception can be handled entirely by your team, so none of your consulting time is touched and any commercial arrangement is set out clearly from day one.

Ophthalmologists Who Teach and Speak

If you already give patient-education talks or lecture on lifestyle and eye health, a scan gives an audience something to try, entirely away from patient care.

Recurring income, handled openly

Income That Continues, and the Ground Rules That Come With It.

When someone chooses to subscribe to a product after their scan, you earn commission on each recurring shipment for as long as they stay subscribed - it does not depend on you being in the room again. Because you are a doctor, that income has to be earned the right way. It is stronger when the interest is declared, the person is free to say no, and the score is described honestly as a wellness figure. Handled like that, it can sit comfortably beside your clinical work rather than in tension with it.

Prysm iO wellness supplement range

Open by Default

If you discuss Prysm iO with a patient, tell them you earn from it. GMC guidance on financial interests asks exactly that of doctors, and it makes for a more honest conversation than one where the interest is left unsaid.

Their Choice, Not Your Prescription

These are wellness supplements, not treatments. Nobody should be steered towards them because of what they might pay you, and never in place of clinical advice or care.

We Run the Subscriptions

Payments, shipping and delivery queries for subscribers are handled by us rather than by you, so you are never chasing a renewal or answering a "where is my order" message. Your part is limited to seeing commission credited after each recurring shipment.

Check Your Own Rules First

NHS trusts and private hospitals can have their own policies on outside work and commercial interests. Read yours, and speak to your indemnifier, before you begin. We cannot give regulatory advice, and would much rather you asked.

Run the numbers

What Might This Add Alongside Clinical Work?

Enter figures that reflect how you would realistically run this, and see how scan fees, retail profit and commissions could build as subscribers accumulate. It is an illustration for you to test your own assumptions against, not a forecast.

Everything shown is built from scans you carry out and the subscriptions that people then choose to take up. The 5-year figure assumes 10 scans a week, every week, without a break, and most people will not keep that up for five years. The real limit is finding enough people to scan in a setting where doing so is appropriate. Any income of this kind should be openly declared, and how you use Prysm iO with patients is for you to settle with GMC guidance and your employer's rules before you rely on any of these figures.

What stands behind the number

“A doctor is right to ask what a score is actually built on before mentioning it to anyone.”

The honest answer has three parts. Skin carotenoids have been studied for years as a biomarker of fruit and vegetable intake. Pharmanex has spent two decades developing the scanning behind this device. And Prysm iO itself has been recognised with Technology Innovation honours at the TITAN Business Awards, a Wellness Insight win at the Globee Business Awards and a Good Design Award. None of that makes it a clinical instrument, and it is not presented as one - but it is a reasonable answer for a colleague or patient who asks what is behind it.

A Way In to Eye-Health Conversations Where Nobody Is Your Patient

Ophthalmologists give talks, teach, sit on panels and join patient-education evenings. At any of them, a scanner on the table gives an audience something hands-on, and it does so without the questions that come with recommending anything to someone in your care.

01

The Device Draws Questions

A small lit scanner on a table at a talk, a health fair or a team wellbeing day gets people asking what it does before you have said anything about it.

02

The Result Explains Itself

Someone leaves with a real number and a short note on what it reflects. That is a far easier introduction to nutrition than a leaflet, and it keeps the discussion on general wellbeing.

03

Follow-Up by Invitation Only

If someone wants to hear more, they can leave their details with their consent. There is no cold outreach, and nobody is added to anything they did not ask to join.
